A great day of adventure awaits
Mascoutah located just 23 miles from downtown St. Louis, had its beginning in 1837 as the German settlement "Mechanicsburg". The honest and proud leaders changed the name to Mascoutah after discovering that there already was a Mechanicsburg in Illinois.
Noted for its flourishing businesses and the well-established milling industry of the early days, Mascoutah evolved to a safe and friendly community of over 6000 residents with close-knit relationships to Scott AFB.
The Mascoutah's downtown district boosts a unique and growing array of specialty shops and residences. Visitors enjoy exploring a brand new Visitor Center, a Heritage Museum, two giant murals, picturesque historic mansions, shops and restaurants.
The annual August Fest, parades and many community events are entertaining families throughout the year. A new Put-Put Course neighboring the peaceful Country Club & Prairie Lake, along with the three parks and the remodeled pool keep residents and visitors busy throughout all seasons.
